Shedding Skin

I’m not sure why Ghostpoet gets so little attention, especially in the US (not even a single search result on Pitchfork), but his latest effort Shedding Skin is excellent. I think he has been unfairly categorized as another UK rapper when this record in particular is proof that he’s capable of much more. Although the album was self-released it wouldn’t feel out of place on the Young Turks roster, which is a big compliment given their current run (Jamie xx, FKA Twigs, Sampha). It shows considerable artistic growth and not just because it features guitars and live drums in place of samplers. Fans of Radiohead, Massive Attack or Roots Manuva will find a lot to like in this kindred spirit further cultivating his own unique voice.
