From its first episode Mad Men has stuck Peggy Olson with some pretty unforgiving looks and even worse luck. So it was nice to see her stroll into the McCann Erickson offices, after a drunken afternoon that was part pep talk and part trip down memory lane with Roger Sterling, looking and acting like she owned the place. Roger giving her Cooper’s sexual octopus painting (an 1814 piece by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai of The Great Wave fame) was another example of how good this how is at tying its past to its future. You certainly get the sense that Peggy isn’t going to fall into the same quicksand that ended Joan’s time there before it even began. After the sad depths of Season 7 this last episode arc has been filled with nothing but winners so far.
