Other than parts of Merriweather Post Pavillion I’m not a fan of Animal Collective. They’re one of the worst bands I’ve ever seen live and most of their music has zero appeal to me. So it’s difficult to explain why I like the solo work of Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear so much. Something about the combination of his intricately tailored sampling work, use of repetition and innocent, upper register vocals just works for me. There is a song on his new promo EP Mr. Noah, meant as a teaser for his third full-length due out in early 2015, called “Faces in the Crowd” that I’ve had on repeat since I got my hands on it last week. “Mr Noah” is a pretty great lead single and I’m eagerly anticipating more from this new batch of songs.
