Visiting Japan has been at the top of my travel destinations list for as long as I can remember and although I have been blessed to travel to many amazing places across the globe I still haven’t made it there. I have a long-running list in my mind of places I’d visit if I ever do fulfill my Japanese dream and the Hotel Okura would certainly be on that list. I was sad to read today that there is a renovation plan that would permanently alter the original design that made it a landmark destination for people of refined taste since it opened in 1962. The good men of Monocle have started a petition to try and preserve this near perfect example of modern Japanese architecture and design. Although it may be an exercise in futility as the interests of economic growth inevitably win over those of aesthetic standards it is still worth the time it takes to add an e-signature to their cause.
