Artist Kate Bonner is a good friend and I’ve had the pleasure of watching her work slowly evolve in a very interesting and natural way over the course of the last few years. Personal bias aside, her pieces stood out as clear highlights of the 2013 NADA Art Fairs in Miami and New York and she will be showing new work this Saturday at the Luis De Jesus gallery in Los Angeles for her first solo show. She creates individual pieces using mixed media to create beautiful, abstract objects that always have a unique relationship to the space they inhabit. She does a good job of explaining her ideas and intent in this recent interview for Complex. If you’re in LA this weekend it’s well worth the effort to stop by the show and see these pieces in person.
