Best of Film 2013

her-joaquin-phoenix-My friends and fellow movie nerds at the Muriel Awards posted their choice for this year’s Best Film yesterday as well as breaking down many of the year’s highlights in all of the major categories. I thought this was a great year for film with much to celebrate from big names who delivered yet again as well as lesser known artists pushing boundaries and fighting to find their footing. For me personally though there was a fairly wide gap between Spike Jonze’s Her and everything else. There simply wasn’t another movie that engaged all 5 senses, challenged our perception of the world around us or engaged with its audience in the way this film was able to. It’s a special piece of work and although I was disappointed it didn’t get more awards recognition I was happy to see Spike take home an Oscar for his visionary screenplay. Below you’ll find my choices for Top Films of the Year as well all of the individual categories.
