Kevin-Morby-Harlem-RiverI discovered this record the old fashioned way – by hearing it on a friend’s turntable. It’s a little outside what I normally listen to but it’s direct and honest in a refreshing way and has a certain quality that elevates this small collection of songs into something special. The record is an homage to Morby’s time in New York and certainly counts Lou Reed (there’s even a song called “Wild Side”) and “Positively 4th Street” era Dylan as influences. I always love end of the year finds like this and haven’t seen it pop up on any of the magazine lists.
