Co-Op 87I finally made it over to Co-Op 87 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn last weekend and was not disappointed. They’ve got a well-curated, eclectic collection and I was pleasantly surprised (borderline shocked) that the guy in the store was cool, enthusiastic and helpful. After doing some quick web research it turned out that was co-founder Mike Catalano just enjoying a Saturday afternoon spinning everything from Verve piano jazz to UK Rockabilly comps with equal passion. This is a great spot for casual listeners and diggers alike and a nice addition to the select group of New York City record stores that made it through to the other side of the mp3 era and are now enjoying the vinyl resurgence.
