Ever since I saw an enthusiastic plug from Anthony Bourdain Xi’an Famous Foods has been on my radar. When they recently opened a location within walking distance from my place in Brooklyn I knew I had to try it. Somehow I never followed up on that promise until last night when I finally trekked over to their desolate, middle-of-nowhere store front to sample the low budget, super spicy food that everyone keeps talking about. I wasn’t disappointed. Consulting friends who were regulars I stuck with menu staples on my first visit: lamb and pork burgers, Spicy Cumin Lamb and Mount Qi Pork Noodles. All four were fiery and delicious. Particularly impressive is that, as advertised, all the noodles were hand ripped and prepared to order. It’s easy to see why so Xi’an has built up such a following and I’ll definitely be back to tackle more items from their unique, budget friendly menu.
