Two records that have been helping me get through my work day are the new releases from Nosaj Thing and Gold Panda. I’ve been fans of both since their debuts and their new work showcases a more mature, thoughtful approach without sacrificing any of their core identity. Gold Panda’s Trust EP is four tracks of sonic perfection that avoids some of the high energy, fast-finger sampling he’s known for to capture what feels like a snapshot of where he was at the moment this music was made. Likewise, Nosaj Thing’s Home trades in beats that Kid Cudi would use for a mixtape and the glitchy pastiche of Drift in favor of a warmer, more settled sound that might reflect lost time spent in airports or long, Los Angeles sunsets. Either way, it’s quality work from a talented producer expanding on what he’s already built.
