My friends at the Muriel Awards have started posting their winners for the year in film and as always the results are both revealing and refreshing. I’m happy to continue to be included in this group of independent film critics (yes, some would say nerds) that offers an encouraging balance to the more political side of awards season. I don’t always agree with their choices but I’m always interested to see who came out on top and I’ve often found movies I might otherwise have missed through the process. Each category is accompanied by commentary from a solid group of writers with particular knowledge of the subject. They are consistently good reads from unique voices continuing the conversation on what great work in film can be and do. I’ll be posting up my own ballot for the year soon.
