I finally got around to watching Kevin Macdonald’s Marley documentary and I honestly can’t imagine this material being better utilized. Bob Marley is such a legendary figure that most of us know bits and pieces of his story but this all-encompassing account, led by archival footage and first hand accounts from the people closest to him, is a fitting tribute to a great man that gives detailed insight into what led him to become one of the world’s most famous musicians and a leader in the movement for peace and equality. It’s an important piece of work that properly frames his legacy and also a pleasure to watch. To see where he came from and then witness how far his influence has spread was truly inspiring. This is a lock for my Top 10 Films of the Year, documentary or fiction.
