I got to see Prometheus at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema yesterday. Although I had my complaints, particularly with the film’s final 20 minutes, there is no denying that it looked incredible with some dazzling camera and effects sequences. The highlight of the film for me was easily Michael Fassbender’s portrayal of an android named David, who strangely models himself after Peter O’Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. It’s a unique and difficult performance that he pulls off flawlessly. Nitehawk always plays custom content related to the film as time killers before the movie starts and I was fascinated by this bizarre Weyland Corp. ad for David. It’s hard for me to imagine any other top line actor disappearing into a part like this, just another reason Fassbender is quickly becoming one the most interesting actors working today.
