I’ve been loving the throwback, built-for-summer sounds of Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$. His mixtape 1999 came as a pleasant surprise that I’ve been bumping consistently since I grabbed it. There’s been a strong move lately back towards Golden Era production and rhyme styles among the younger generation of rappers. It’s a trend that I’m certainly not mad at and makes perfect sense in that all good things come back around and the sounds seem to go hand in hand with the fashion you see young guys like OKC’s Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant rocking. At a certain point kids had to get sick of the played out radio rap that’s been popular for so long. Not everyone is trying to listen to 2 Chainz and I thank God for that.
