Ernest Greene aka Washed Out has dropped the official album of the summer and a strong contender for my favorite LP of the year. The move to Sub Pop has definitely brought a bigger, more polished sound than recording in Mom & Pops basement but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. The production, in collaboration with Ben Allen (Merriweather Post Pavillion among others), is lush and full with Greene consistently able to create interesting, intricate drum patterns (which isn’t always easy when you’re programming your drums as opposed to playing them). This album has great replay value with repeat spins only rewarding you with little details you may not have caught before. Highly recommended.
