After watching Hirokazu Kore-eda’s excellent, understated family drama Still Walking last night I was reminded once again how much respect I have for Japanese people and their culture. It’s long been a dream of mine to visit Japan. I’ve done a good amount of reading on travel there and of course scenes like this one don’t hurt that fantasy. Like many, I’ve been deeply saddened and troubled by the recent developments there. There is only so much you can do from a distance but there are many artists making it easy to do a small part and rewarding you for doing so. The Morning Benders put out one of my favorite records last year and have released a Japan benefit EP full of remixes and two original tracks. I highly recommend visiting their site and donating.
