Ghostpoet

I have to be honest and say that I’ve never been the biggest fan of UK rappers. TY and Roots Manuva being exceptions to the rule. But I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Ghostpoet this week via Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Podcast where he discussed roots, influences and his own trajectory as an artist. I guess technically Ghostpoet would be categorized as a rapper but what he’s doing feels alot more interesting – much closer to Jamie xx’s treatment of Gil Scott-Heron or even James Blake in terms of production. There are some exciting new sounds bubbling up out of London these days and I can safely add Ghostpoet to that growing list.
