You can’t judge a band by their name (or cover)

Inspired by the excellent Zola Jesus EP which isn’t exactly helped by the cover art above.  Here are some others I always had initial misconceptions about:
Fuck Buttons (I would have guessed Dance/Noise not dramatic, textural instrumentals)
Broken Social Scene (Until I saw Half Nelson I thought this was a hardcore act with a big high school following)
Banjo or Freakout (This could have been a Gogol Bordello side project and I wouldn’t have been shocked)
Black Moth Super Rainbow (Had these guys pegged squarely as death metal)
Porn Sword Tobacco (I have no fucking clue what association I had with this name but it certainly wasn’t intricate ambient electronic)
Does It Offend You, Yeah? (Pretty much just a bad decision)
The Muslims/The Soft Pack (This is the best you guys could come up with?  I don’t even know which one is better or worse)
Capone-N-Noreaga (Let’s be honest hip-hop could have its own post for this category but their classic debut “The War Report” was one I was deadset on ignoring based solely on the name)
Musiq Soulchild (Actually this is a pretty accurate indicator of the kind of musiq quality you should expect)
